Sandbox Pals Category: Writing and Poetry This poem was inspired by my Sandbox Pal. She knows who she is. Little boy hanging out in a sandbox Dirty hands with golden locks Building bridges and skyscrapers in his mind Working diligently on his knees Totally engrossed focused in Filling up mommy's laundry bin One day a little girl came by Caught this lil' dirty boy's eye Sent his heart reeling to the sky Too bad he was awefully shy This little girl got in his way As he was building a tunnel And trying to make it stay He stopped and looked at her She smiled and said sorry He said that's OK, you wanna play She said yes Brought her lil' bucket over They made castles and bridges Mountains and ridges Her little curls got in his eye He was still just a little too shy They made face paint with mud Painted eachother with smooth wet crud Played cowboys and indians Hide and seek Hung out with eachother throughout the week She brightened the world of this little boy's life Dreaming one day she'd be his wife One day she took this boy's hand His heart was beating like a German brass band He gave her a frog, a penny, and some rocks When ever he saw her he'd wear his clean socks Their mommy's made gummy bear icecream pie They ate it in the sandbox Staring into eachother's eyes Whenever it was time for these lil' ones to go home The lil' girl would kiss him so he didn't feel so all alone
