A Night at the Galaxy Category: Writing and Poetry This poem was inspired by my buddy punk rocker chick Charli Jean. This shit really happened. If you didn't do shit like this when you were young, you blew it. Have fun reading it. I was working the door at the Galaxy skating rink In Fullerton, CA It was Saturday night Punk night The bands playing tonight were The Adolescents The Minute Men, Husker Du, and this cool band that had a cast of clowns That slam danced around on the stage And jumped off into the audience now and then Can't remember their names One too many brain cells were sacrificed on the alter of youthful bliss I was friends with Rick Agnew and his little brother Frankie Their hit song Amoeba was on Rodney on the Rock's album The best of KROQ hits Punkers started showing up from all over the place Wearing black leather, liberty spikes in their hair They had spiked jackets, spiked belts Spiked chokers, spiked wrist bands Spikes coming out of their lower lips and chins These were not wanna be poser Punkers They were fighters from soho dogtown locales The parking lot was filled already with empty beer bottles The bands were already blaring away Girls were all trying to get in free by kissing me I gave in to a couple of them I was in the mosh pit bumping and grinding These punkers tonight were tripping If you got too close to the outside of the pit Back then we called it the slam pit And we were slam dancing Really bumping eachother hard My friend who owned the rink was gonna shit There were punkers carving their lover's names into the wooden floor One guy jumped off the stage and nobody caught him The ambulences showed up and hauled the guy off The music was fast and loud Intoxicating my soul It was dark save for the Mirrored ball throwing off spots of light Spinning around the room And the wicked colored lights and smoke on the stage The chicks were sexy cool with their black lips Fine hips, belly chains, jet blue manes Pierced toungues The place was jumpin, my heart was thumpin This one cool chick looked too cute She was too young But I loved her in my heart just the same I took her to my car We smoked some chronic She sat in the back seat, me in the front I could see her in my rear view Her chest moving up and down The sound of her breathing was electric She respected me for not taking advantage She felt safe and protected In my car, with her big buddy Oh cruel fate made us too many years apart For she was a cutie pie Made stars in my eyes Something inside her bubbled over And caught ahold of my heart Suddenly a fight broke out in the parking lot It was the La Mirada punkers vs the Fullerton punkers They were heaving beer bottles Using trash can lids for shields It was kinda cool actually We broke it up My cousin Mikey and me She thanked me and we went back inside Another girl with black fishnets Jet black straight hair Black lipstick Tiny skirt Showing all of her beautiful legs sculpted by the gods Threw herself at me and started force french kissing me She litterally dragged me out of the club And into my car She had a few too many I gave her a ride home She nearly got us killed on the way We were doing 70 on the 92 Riverside freeway And she kept pulling my head over and kissing me I dropped her off and went back to the club My other cousin Matt came by with the chronic Quantities of it He wanted me to go with him Trade pot for hookers I had to man the club This whole night ended with me, Mikey, Rick, Frankie and others Playing hockey with full cans of budweiser on the empty rink floor Rick had a custom made guitar In the shape of a battle axe With mythical cracks in it And real blood under the clear coats His blood We put on some wicked punk and slapped those hockey sticks Rick and his brother Frankie liked me They called me "the dude with the tie" Cuz I had this shitty sales job And I was wearing my tie one night at a rehearsal I had a quarter ounce of coke And I traded some of it for a sheet of window pain Me and Mikey went walking through these tunnels With lights shining down at us from holes in the streets And the beams of light were triple beams They were bouncing and giving off trails that floated back behind them Oh what a fucking time I had That night at the Galaxy
